“In the words of fellow twin mom, Beyonce, time to get in formation. Apart from exercising my right to vote, I am not a particularly politically active person. But the prospective changes being proposed to the ACA in Congress have had me calling my senators every single day.”

  1. know your elected officials

Find out who your federal, state and local elected officials are, visit their offices, sign up for their email lists, attend town hall meetings, call them, email them and follow them on social media. Whatever it takes to make your voice heard.

  2. find your local neighborhood organization

Most neighborhoods have an organization or association that advocates for issues that affect your community. Some quick Googling and you hopefully find yours.

  3. get involved in your child’s school

Join your local PTA or join your child’s daycare parent advisory group (if there isn’t one, start one!) But only do this if you want to, not because you feel like you HAVE to.

  4. Find an organization you love

Look for an organization in your community that is working on an issue you care about and volunteer your time and/or resources, if possible. Also consider joining their board of directors or an advisory committee.
